HOW TO START LEARNING MUSIC WITH RHYTHM (Part 5)

When we do a song or practice at home, rhythm has a direct relationship with it. There are many types of this rhythm or taal. Each of every taal has different types of rhythm levels. Today we'll create some ideas about rhythm in ourselves. Some songs are without rhythm. But there is also an implicit rhythm. Which we can't hear, but we can feel. But the number of this type of songs is very rare. Most of the songs that we see use different types of rhythms. It is very important to practice with rhythm by clapping your hands at the beginning of learning the song. The type of rhythm that goes into our minds in a good way. We can understand and at the same time keep track of when a rhythm ends.


We see many types of rhythms or Taals in Hindustani classical music. Such as Trital or Teen Taal, Jhap Taal, Kaharwa, Dadra, Rupak Taal etc. There are also many more rhythms in Hindustani classical music. Today we will discuss Trital or Teen Taal. This Teen taal contains 16 matras. Teen taal is called in this way - 


"Dha Dhin Dhin Dha/ Dha Dhin Dhin Dha/ Na Teen Teen Na/ Ta Dhin Dhin Dha"

The first matra of this Taal is called "SOM" and ninth matra is called "Faak". When we practice the taal by clapping our hands, then clap your hands during "SOM". But coming to the 9th matra, we have to show the "gap". That means there are no need to clap during 9th matra.

                                                


Let's talks about "Matra". You have to clap your hands in 3 places out of 16 matras. We have to clap in 1st matra which is called "SOM" and we have to clap also in 5th matra and 13th matra. We only need to show "gaps" in the 9th matra. That means to show "Faak". This "gap" is also called "empty". That is, you have to emphasize the place in 3 of these 16 matras or you have to understand the matra by pushing and clapping and to open 2 hands in 1 place means empty or "gap". But we have to remember, when we clap our hands and say teen taal, then at the very end we have to come back to "SOM" and finish. That is


 "Dha Dhin Dhin Dha/ Dha Dhin Dhin Dha/ Na Teen Teen Na/ Ta Dhin Dhin Dha/ Dha"
